Underwater monsters, equality in Tunisia and a whole load of theories surrounding The Shining - here's our selection of films to watch today at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.
Hidden Beauties If you missed the red carpet screening on Monday, this new Tunisian drama is definitely worth a trip to Marina Mall. Set during the uprisings last year, it's the tale of two girls who – on watching the revolution around them – seek to demand sexual equality across the various corners of their lives. Marina Mall, Vox 1, 2pm
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea The 1954 classic adaptation of Jules Verne's novel gets a new digital restoration. James Mason plays the mysterious Nemo, captain of the Nautilus submarine, while Kirk Douglas stars as Ned Land, a cocky harpooner on the hunt for a deadly sea monster. If you've read the book, you'll know what happens, but you should still see it anyway. Marina Mall, Vox 2, 6.45pm
Room 237 If you thought The Shining was simply something to avoid watching on a stormy night, think again. Rodney Ascher's eye-opening documentary brings to light some of the various conspiracy theories surrounding Kubrick's masterpiece. Is it a metaphor for the massacre of American Indians? Does it offer symbolic ideas regarding the Holocaust? Or is it Kubrick's apology for faking the Apollo moon landings? Who knows, but this excellent film offers some head-scratching ideas that ensure you never watch it in the same light again. Marina Mall, Vox 1, 7pm. See our interview with Rodney Ascher here
