The actors Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha were announced the worst actors of 2014 — for the second year in a row! — at the Golden Kela (banana) Awards held in New Delhi on Saturday. And Aamir Khan, quite rightly, won a gong for his performance in Dhoom 3.
Now in its sixth year, the Golden Kela Awards — like Hollywood’s Golden Raspberry awards — honour the worst actors and films in Bollywood.
Devgn won Worst Actor for Himmatwala, which was also named the Worst Film, and Sinha won Worst Actress for R ... Rajkumar.
Worst Actor in a Supporting Role went to Aditya Roy Kapoor for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandes and Amisha Patel jointly won the Worst Supporting Actor (Female) for Race 2.
As part of the special awards, Padukone also won the Dara Singh Award for Worst Accent (Chennai Express).
The Kela for the Worst Director went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Goliyon Ki Raas Leela ... Ram Leela.
Aamir Khan got the Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke (loosely translated as “has he lost his mind”) award for Dhoom 3.
Dhoom 3 and Krrish 3 shared the Ra. One Award for Worst Premise.
Voters chose Party All Night from Boss as Most Irritating Song.
Anti-Kela awards, honouring some of Bollywood’s better efforts, were handed out to four “outstanding films”: Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, Go Goa Gone, The Lunchbox and Shahid.
“In Bollywood today, box-office figures have no correlation to the quality of the film. Our sincerest hope is that 10 years down the line, the figures will be forgotten, while the ‘kela’ they got will be remembered,” Anant Singh, the creative head of the Golden Kela Awards, said in a statement. “Aamir Khan once said that he loves the Kela Awards because he believes all the other awards are rigged. Wonder what he has to say about us now.”
