Ant-Man leads North American box office; Bajrangi makes top 10

Marvel action flick Ant-Man topped the North American box office in its debut over the weekend, while Bollywood drama Bajrangi Bhaijaan starring Salman Khan rounded off the top 10. The Hindi-language film has also made it to the coveted 100-crore (1 billion rupees; Dh57.7 million) club in India in its opening weekend.

Ant-Man posted sales of US $58m (Dh 213m), according to industry figures released on Sunday. It unseated animated comedy Minions, which came in second with $50.2m, after racking up $115.7m last weekend in its debut.

Amy Schumer's Trainwreck, about a woman who is wary of steady romantic relationships but falls for a sports doctor, came in third with $30.2m in sales. In fourth place was the animated flick Inside Out, at $11.7m, about a young girl whose emotions – joy, fear, anger, disgust and sadness – battle it out internally as she copes with a move to a new city. Jurassic World dropped from second to fifth place, taking in another $11.4m, bringing the dinosaur movie's overall total to a huge $611.1m. Taking the sixth spot was action-packed sci-fi fantasy Terminator Genisys, which brought in $5.4m in its third weekend.

In seventh position was Magic Mike XXL, a dance-themed drama about a former stripper, starring Channing Tatum, which pulled in $4.5m in theatres over the weekend.

Dropping to eighth place after debuting at number five was Hollywood producer Jason Blum's latest spine-tingler, The Gallows, which took in $4m. Ted 2, the raunchy sequel to Seth MacFarlane's comedy about a foul-mouthed teddy bear, grabbed ninth place, bringing in $2.7m.

At No 10 was Bajrangi Bhaijaan at $2.5m. It is about a speech-impaired girl from Pakistan who gets lost in India and gets help from a kind-hearted man to find her way home to her family.

Keep it fun and engaging

Stuart Ritchie, director of wealth advice at AES International, says children cannot learn something overnight, so it helps to have a fun routine that keeps them engaged and interested.

“I explain to my daughter that the money I draw from an ATM or the money on my bank card doesn’t just magically appear – it’s money I have earned from my job. I show her how this works by giving her little chores around the house so she can earn pocket money,” says Mr Ritchie.

His daughter is allowed to spend half of her pocket money, while the other half goes into a bank account. When this money hits a certain milestone, Mr Ritchie rewards his daughter with a small lump sum.

He also recommends books that teach the importance of money management for children, such as The Squirrel Manifesto by Ric Edelman and Jean Edelman.
