David Lynch returning to Twin Peaks 25 years later

Brew up some coffee as black as midnight on a moonless night and tuck into some “damn fine” cherry pie – the groundbreaking and hugely influential drama Twin Peaks is returning to TV. After teasing us with not-so-cryptic tweets a few days ago, the show’s co-­creators David Lynch and Mark Frost on Monday night confirmed the news fans have been waiting 25 years to hear – they are finally continuing the story that ended abruptly on a cliffhanger when the show was cancelled in 1991 after its second season. The US television channel Showtime has ordered a nine-episode series that will be set 25 years after the events of the last episode. It will be written by Lynch and Frost, with Lynch directing every episode. Many of the show’s surviving stars are expected to return. Production will begin next year, with broadcast set for 2016.
