Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Merida, Ariel and other favourite Disney characters will be coming to Dubai in September – the first of several touring Disney on Ice concerts in the emirate in the next five years.
The international ice-skating show Rockin' Ever After, produced by the US-based Feld Entertainment, is being organised in Dubai by Sports & Entertainment Solutions (SES) and Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing from September 10 to 13 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. More than 48,000 litres of water will be used to transform the venue into an ice rink.
The show's plot is centred on a fictional talent competition featuring characters from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled and Brave.
“There are only two ways of getting up close and personal with Disney characters,” says Ali Haidary, the chief executive of SES. “Either you go to Disney World or watch Disney on Ice. And we are bringing one of those options to you in Dubai.”
The producer, Juliette Feld, says they are providing a new spin to the classic tales. “The popular talent-show trend is used as a vehicle to weave together the four worlds of Merida, Ariel, Belle and Rapunzel,” she says.
The show marks the first Disney on Ice appearance of Merida, the 11th Disney princess from 2012's Brave.
Organisers will also host competitions and skating clinics for children at The Dubai Mall Ice Rink in August.
After the Dubai leg, the Rockin' Ever After tour will move to Doha for shows from September 24 to 27.
