Julianne Moore lands another honour

Julianne Moore isn't short of industry accolades. She has been nominated for an Academy Award four times and now has another honour to add to that list. Moore was last week named the Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year by Harvard University.

Hasty Pudding Theatricals was formed in 1795, by 21 Harvard students and is now thought to be the oldest drama group in the United States. The long-running theatrical society gained its name when they pledged that at each meeting a different member would provide a "hasty pudding". In case you're wondering, hasty pudding is a type of sweetened porridge, made from grains or cornmeal simmered in milk and water. The practice might not have stuck, but the name certainly did.

The group annually select a male and a female who they feel has made an exceptional contribution to the entertainment industry. This year, they praised Moore for the range of her work, which includes well-received roles in both box office and independent films, stints on Broadway and a successful children's book series. On January 27 the actress will take part in a parade, there will be a "roast" in her honour and she will receive her very own golden pudding. In doing so, she joins a long list of past recipients, including Sally Field, Elizabeth Taylor, Julia Roberts and Katharine Hepburn.

Justin Timberlake was 2010's Hasty Pudding Man of the Year And his successor will be announced shortly.
