Kings of Leon promise their new album will be a more fun affair.
Speaking before the release of their anticipated sixth album Mechanical Bull next month, guitarist Matthew Followill says the American rockers are feeling more optimistic than recent times.
"We're still the same people, we just have kids and it was really awesome," he told Reuters.
"It made us almost have more fun in life and not take things so seriously, we just had a little more fun with things.”
That doesn't mean the album will be full of light hearted moments like the recently released lead single Supersoaker.
Followill says Mechanical Bull has it’s share of gnarly rockers.
"We have one song ('Don't Matter') that's the hardest rocking song that we've ever done, and it's the fastest, so that's new for us,” he said.
“We also have some steel guitar on this album and we have some strings at the end of one song, a quartet.”
Followill says the internal tensions plaguing the band's 2011 world tour is well and behind them now.
The two year hiatus, he explains, cooled off most of the frustration.
"It just put everything in perspective, and we actually wanted to get back out there and we were really excited to make a new album,” he says.
“I think it shows that we were really excited to be in the studio and with each other, playing music.”
Mechanical Bulls is out on September 24.
