UAE commuters enthralled over #SaveNeil Valentine’s drama on The Kris Fade Show

A run-of-the mill call-in session on Virgin Radio's The Kris Fade Show about Valentine's Day gifts turned into edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting live radio yesterday when a woman called in to boast about the extravagant presents her boyfriend had given her.

“Last year my guy got me two pairs of Louboutins, the Swarovski ones, each costing Dh24,000, and I didn’t get him nothing,” she said, going on to disclose that he had also bought her a Porsche for Christmas.

Fade then brought a more serious tone to the conversation.

“Anonymous, be serious with me for a minute,” the radio host said. “If the money was gone tomorrow, would you still be with him?”

Anonymous then said, in quite a boastful manner, that she was a self-centred person and she didn’t know if she would be with him should the money disappear.

What unfolded next sent adrenalin surging through morning traffic jams all over the UAE.

Her boyfriend was listening, and called the show.

A bewildered and hurt-sounding Neil pulled his car over to the side of the road, telling the team about his shock at hearing his lady’s voice.

“Yes,” he replied when questioned whether he loved her. “Yes, I’m just shocked by her response to the question. My sister was over at Christmas and she told me she was like that ... I like to spoil people and be generous but when you hear something like that ...”

Neil said there would be a talk that night and the show could call him in the morning to find out what happened. Cue listeners taking to Twitter in a gush of support for polite Neil, adopting the hashtag #SaveNeil.

With instructions to tune in at 8.30am for the update, we’re sure there were plenty of people on time for work this morning. And here’s what transpired. With the support of Virgin’s UAE listeners, and his sister, Neil did what we think is the right thing and sent Anonymous packing.

And the first thing Anonymous asked after he had broken up with her: “Can I keep the Porsche?”

Guess who is going to enjoy the Valentine’s treat he had planned? Neil’s sister – he gave the weekend to her and her husband to enjoy.

As an extra cherry on top, Neil told us that he had been planning to propose to Anonymous over dinner.

Ouch, Anonymous. A bitter pill indeed.
