Emirates, the world's largest long-haul airline, is on a hiring spree for more cabin crew as it looks to expand its workforce and step up operations in response to a rebound in air travel demand. The airline’s recruiters are busy meeting candidates in 30 cities from now until the end of June as air travel “returns with a vengeance”, Emirates said on Tuesday. In its latest recruitment round, Emirates’ teams will travel from Australia to the UK, and dozens of European cities in-between, as well as Cairo, Algiers, Tunis and Bahrain. “There’s no more exciting airline than Emirates for anyone interested in a flying career, and we’ve received tremendous interest since we began our recruitment drive for cabin crew in November,” said Abdulaziz Al Ali, Emirates Group’s executive vice president for human resources. “While parts of the application process are done online, we always make the effort to meet our candidates in person whenever we can, and that is why our Talent Acquisition team is doing a whirlwind 30-city tour over the next six weeks to assess prospective candidates.” Last week, the airline said it narrowed its annual loss amid a recovery in passenger travel demand and strong performance from its freight business. It reported a loss of Dh3.9 billion ($1.1bn) for the financial year ended March 31, compared with a loss of Dh20.3bn in the previous year. The airline's revenue rose 91 per cent a year to Dh59.2bn as it carried 19.6 million passengers, a three-fold increase from the previous year. The average starting salary for Emirates cabin crew is Dh9,770 per month, and the airline trains about 120 new recruits each week at Emirates Aviation College, an Emirates representative said last month. All Emirates crew are based in Dubai, with company-provided accommodation, tax-free salary and other benefits, the airline said. Emirates’ global cabin crew team represents 160 nationalities, reflecting its customer mix and international operations in more than 130 cities on six continents. ____________________
