Dubai Airports traffic dips to 6.9m in February, India remains top travel destination

Traffic at Dubai International Airport, the world's busiest for international travel, dipped 0.3 per cent year-on-year to 6.9 million passengers in February, Dubai Airports said.

Passenger traffic for the first two months of the year also slipped 0.6 per cent to 14.9 million compared to the same period in 2017, Dubai Airports said, without giving a reason for the decline. Flight movements at Dubai International were down 3.4 per cent to 66,762 flights year-to-date.

Eastern Europe was the fastest growing market with traffic up 17.6 per cent, followed by South America and the CIS, according to Dubai Airports. India remained the top travel country, followed by the UK, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. London was the most travelled city, ahead of Mumbai and Bangkok.

Annual passenger traffic at Dubai International is expected to reach 90.3 million in 2018, up from 88.2 million last year, the operator said earlier. Dubai International is home to the world's biggest long-haul carrier Emirates and its discount sister FlyDubai.
