Etihad Airways will cancel all direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Tehran from January 24, with a reduced service to come into effect from December 25, the airline said on Tuesday evening.
“Etihad Airways has taken the decision to suspend its Abu Dhabi – Tehran route, effective 24 January 2018,” an airline spokesperson said.
“Between 25 December 2017 and 23 January 2018, frequency will also be adjusted from five flights a week to two services each week. The airline regrets any inconvenience that this change will cause to guests with existing bookings.”

The airline did not give an explanation for the decision, first announced on state news agency Wam.
“Guests holding bookings for travel up to 23 January 2018 and who are impacted by the schedule change, will be rebooked with an alternative travel date (subject to availability) or offered the choice of a full refund,” said Etihad.
“Guests with bookings from 24 January 2018 will be offered a full refund.”
Emirates and flydubai said that flights to Tehran were operating as scheduled. AirArabia could not be reached for comment.
