It shows the steam behind London’s property market when residences 35 minutes from Bond Street in the capital’s centre are considered in the premium bracket. Let’s face it, if you are 35 minutes from somewhere then there is still a fair way to go. London being London, however, means there is not just one centre and not just one destination and that is, partially, what fuels the steamroller that is London’s property scene.
For Dh17 million, you can buy a five-bedroom property in a new development in north London between Harrow, Bushey and Stanmore.
Bentley Priory was an 18th-century stately home that housed Queen Adelaide, the consort of William IV. However, in the Second World War, the property became the headquarters of Royal Air Force (RAF) Fighter Command.
In 2008, the RAF sold the buildings and it has now been developed into a range of homes set in a 57-acre parkland estate. Only 10 acres of the land has been used for development, leaving trees more than twice the age of the UAE to present a leafy backdrop. Barratt Homes is one of the UK’s biggest developers and may not be the first name you think of to build premium residences on this historic piece of land (this is where the Battle of Britain was planned).
In total, there are four five-bedroom homes on offer, all of which overlook the original 18th-century Priory. The properties feature underfloor heating along with a gated entrance, 24-hour security for added peace of mind and a concierge service to help with day-to-day needs.
Two residents-only tennis courts can be found in the grounds and a museum commemorating the site’s military history is now open on the Priory grounds as well. You may have to be quick though – two of the four homes have already been sold, and they aren’t scheduled to be delivered until winter 2015.

Tips for used car buyers
- Choose cars with GCC specifications
- Get a service history for cars less than five years old
- Don’t go cheap on the inspection
- Check for oil leaks
- Do a Google search on the standard problems for your car model
- Do your due diligence. Get a transfer of ownership done at an official RTA centre
- Check the vehicle’s condition. You don’t want to buy a car that’s a good deal but ends up costing you Dh10,000 in repairs every month
- Validate warranty and service contracts with the relevant agency and and make sure they are valid when ownership is transferred
- If you are planning to sell the car soon, buy one with a good resale value. The two most popular cars in the UAE are black or white in colour and other colours are harder to sell
