Satya Nadella – chief executive, Microsoft
Mr Nadella succeeded Steve Ballmer as Microsoft’s chief executive in 2014, previously having been the executive vice president of the company’s cloud computing group. Born in Hyderabad, he completed a degree in electrical engineering at Manipal Institute of Technology before moving to the US to study for a master's degree in computer science at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He subsequently completed his MBA at the University of Chicago. Mr Nadella is also a board member of Starbucks.
Indra Nooyi – chief executive, PepsiCo
Indra Nooyi joined PepsiCo in 1994, rising to the role of chief financial officer in 2001, becoming president and chief executive in 2006. Ms Nooya was born in Chennai in Tamil Nadu in south India, and studied physics, chemistry and mathematics at the Madras Christian College. She subsequently completed an MBA at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Calcutta, and a master’s degree in public and private management at Yale University in the US. She lives in Greenwich, Conneticut, and consistently features on the Forbes list of the world's 100 most powerful women.
Ajaypal Singh Banga – president and chief executive, Mastercard
Mr Banga has been the president and chief executive of Mastercard since 2010. He was born in Khadki, near Pune in western India. Born into a military family, he was schooled in various parts of India in institutions including St Stephen's College, Delhi University and IIM in Ahmedabad. He held roles in India and Nestle and Citigroup before becoming the chief executive of Mastercard in the US.
Sundar Pichai – chief executive, Google
Mr Pichai joined Google in 2004, working his way up to become the company’s product chief in 2014, with the CEO appointment coming the following year. He was born and grew up in Tamil Nadu. He studied for a degree at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in metallurgical engineering, later completing a master's degree at Stanford and an MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Shantanu Narayen – chief executive, Adobe
Originally from Hyderabad, Mr Narayen has an undergraduate degree in electronics and communications engineering from University College of Engineering, Osmania University in Hyderabad, a master’s degree in computer science from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and an MBA from UC Berkeley. After beginning his career at Apple, he joined Adobe in 1998 and rose through the ranks to chief executive in 2007.
