When I'm driving somewhere in my car, I like to get there and fast . But I also like to stay within the law, and therefore the speed limit. At least I thought I did. Since paying off over Dh5000 in fines in July this year, my husband and I had a frank chat about my driving habits. The message from him was clear: "continue clocking up that number of fines and I'll take your car away". "Fine," I snapped. But of course he was right. There's no point arriving somewhere quicker than your road peers if you're going to pay over the odds for doing so. But never one to miss a challenge, I decided to test my reformed driving style with a mini-competition to see who could get through the year with the least fines. It was all going so well for me, (we were at 2-1 to my husband) until this week when we logged onto the Dubai Police website to check the fine log. And lo and behold there were six - four of which had to be mine due to the time and the location and two that I consider questionable. Had I missed the flash of the speed camera? Must have done. Is it time I set the cruise control firmly under the speed limit? Most definitely, yes. And will a reformed attitude to speed save me cash? Absolutely. Staying within the speed limit is one of the easiest money savers out there. I'll keep you posted.
