I always thought my invitation to the royal wedding must have got lost in the post. And so imagine the relief when a gold-embossed card arrived in a wax-sealed envelope, sent by the "Lord Chamberlain's office, Buckingham Palace". Credit card in hand, I prepared to book my flights to London to see Prince William and Catherine Middleton tie the knot. But the excitement soon made way for a nagging feeling - why, all of the sudden, are Wills and Kate writing to me at my work address? They know full well that the post there is a little unreliable... The invite pictured above is, of course, about as likely to gain one admittance to tomorrow's service at Westminster Abbey as a ticket for the Dubai Metro. It is, in fact, a nice marketing ploy by the Dubai-based satellite-TV broadcaster Orbit Showtime Network. "As you can imagine, a great many people will be attending this wedding, so there's a very real possibility that you will be seated towards the rear of the cathedral where the view is terrible," read the smallprint on the card. "However, OSN subscribers will be guaranteed a fabulous view throughout, courtesy of Sky HD, exclusively on OSN," it added, along with a number for the subscriber hotline. Despite the global media frenzy surrounding the event, it is good to see a local company coming up with such a fun piece of marketing. And, for a split second, they got me thinking - perhaps there was a delay in the post...
