ABU DHABI // A new extension opened on Monday at Emirates Park Zoo and Resort in Abu Dhabi’s Al Bahia.
The space allows visitors to see the zoo’s newest resident, a hippopotamus, in an area similar to its natural habitat, reported Wam, the state news agency.
Resort guests will also be able to see the animal from their suite balconies. An amphitheatre that can seat up to 400 people will host animal shows.
The 6,500-square-metre extension is the first of a series of renovations that the zoo expects to complete within a year. The area is also home to camels, sheep, goats and birds.
“We believe that guests will fall in love and connect with our animal family, which includes some of the world’s most amazing and disappearing wildlife,” said Dr Waleed Sha’aban, operations manager at the zoo.
