Google Doodle commemorates Dubai Expo 2020 victory

Google Doodle paid special tribute to Dubai's successful bid of Expo 2020 on Thursday - a day after the emirate won rights to host the world fair.

The iconic multicoloured letters that make up the Google logo on its UAE homepage were changed to white, layered over an Expo 2020 blue background.

The second ‘O’ in the word Google was redesigned to appear in the logo of the Dubai Expo 2020 logo.

The words “Congratulations Dubai, winner of Expo 2020” appear when the mouse hovers over the Google logo.

When clicked on, the Google Doodle redirects visitors to the Google search results page for “Expo 2020 Dubai UAE”.

The search results page displays news sources and websites from around the world related to the Dubai's victorious bid, which saw the city winning over Yekateringburg (Russia), Izmir (Turkey) and Sao Paulo (Brazil) to host the Expo in 2020.

Google Doodles have been around since 1998. Thousands of Google Doodles have been designed over the years to commemorate a wide array of events and anniversaries.

Hundreds of Google Doodles are available for purchase at the Doodle Store, where items ranging from mugs to T-shirts are sold.

The Dubai Expo 2020 doodle is not up for sale, but the Google Store site says that new items and doodles are added each week.
