A large fire that broke out at a tent market in the Al Rai area south-west of Kuwait City on Monday has now been controlled, according to authorities. The Kuwait Fire Force (KFF) said five firefighting units were used at the scene to contain the blaze. "The area of the fire is at approximately 4,000 square metres, with damage mostly affecting tents' building materials and camping products," the KFF said in a statement. Kuwait's central operations had received an alert on Monday afternoon that a huge fire had broken out in one of the buildings at the market, the media department of the KFF said in a press statement. A witness at the site told The National that thick black smoke was seen billowing from the market and that windy conditions in Kuwait made it difficult for firefighters to easily contain the fire. The blaze had covered an area of at least 4,000 square meters, with the damage mostly limited to the tents' building materials and camping products, the KFF added in a statement.
