Your next haircut could help raise funds for the rebuilding of Beirut. A number of hairdressers across the UAE are coming together for a four-day event, offering trims and blowdries to benefit charities working on the ground in the Lebanese capital. Stylists will be on hand at the L’Oreal Academy in Dubai's Business Bay and the Eideal Academy, near Dubai World Trade Centre, between Friday, August 28 and Monday, August 31. The initiative will offer haircuts for Dh315, which come with blowdries, while wash and blowdries will cost Dh105. All proceeds, including any additional donations made by customers, will go towards Emirates Red Crescent, which has been providing essential aid to the city after it was devastated by an explosion on August 4. The event is being coordinated by Natalie Kasses, a L’Oreal international ambassador, who said the UAE's hairdressing community had been seeking a way to give back to the people of Lebanon. "As we have all looked on helplessly and have had so many clients sitting in our chairs sharing the experiences of their family and friends, we wanted to help," she tells The National. The concept also has special meaning for Haysam Eid, managing director of hair products and hair tools company Eideal. The brand's headquarters in Beirut were destroyed in the blast, which claimed more than 170 lives and left thousands more injured and homeless. “The Eideal HQ got completely decimated by the explosion but thankfully all our colleagues, families and friends escaped and were completely safe,” says Eid. “But we have total empathy for the people of Beirut who lost not just businesses and homes but loved ones. "We really wanted to do something to show our support and that our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time, so we were more than willing to offer the use of our academy for this event.” Eideal is also donating 50 per cent of sales made on its website in August to the Lebanese Red Cross. Bookings must be made for appointments at both the L’Oreal Academy and the Eideal Academy; customers can call 058 591 7577 to secure a spot. The pop-up salons will be open between 10am and 6pm.
