Paddington Bear experience coming to Festival City Mall

A Paddington World, mall-based experience is set to open in Festival City to celebrate the launch of Paddington 2, the second installment of the big screen adventures of the much-loved Peruvian bear.

Details of the planned homage to the ursine, Peruvian preserve lover are sparse at present, but it will serve as the focal point for the Share a Bear School Challenge. Share a Bear will also see Paddington himself visiting schools across the UAE to collect unwanted teddy bears for less fortunate children around the world from the schools he visits.

The Share a Bear School Challenge, supported by Novo Cinemas, Emirates Red Crescent and the Toys With Wings campaign, collects toys and distributes them to less fortunate children around the world.

Since its inception, Toys With Wings has distributed over 100,000 toys to children in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Morocco, Iraq, Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Belgium, Spain and Kenya.

Paddington will be touring schools in the run up to the movie's release on November 30 to tell students and teachers more about the initiative and how they can get involved. Participating schools will be dropping off their collected bears between November 19th and 21 at the dedicated Share a Bear School Challenge Paddington teddy bear box at Dubai Festival City Mall.

The class out of all participating schools that donates the most bears to the drive will win a private screening of Paddington 2 for their students at Novo Cinemas, Dubai Festival City Mall.

Iftar programme at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding

Established in 1998, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding was created with a vision to teach residents about the traditions and customs of the UAE. Its motto is ‘open doors, open minds’. All year-round, visitors can sign up for a traditional Emirati breakfast, lunch or dinner meal, as well as a range of walking tours, including ones to sites such as the Jumeirah Mosque or Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.

Every year during Ramadan, an iftar programme is rolled out. This allows guests to break their fast with the centre’s presenters, visit a nearby mosque and observe their guides while they pray. These events last for about two hours and are open to the public, or can be booked for a private event.

Until the end of Ramadan, the iftar events take place from 7pm until 9pm, from Saturday to Thursday. Advanced booking is required.
