Reem Island is one of the fastest-growing communities in Abu Dhabi, and it gained a brilliant new asset during the National Day weekend. Reem Central Park, a one-million-square-foot recreational space, opened on the island after an 18-month construction programme. The park, which is close to Repton Foundation School, is made up of sports facilities, a skating arena, playground, community lawn, canal walk and city beach. It is also home to a water fountain, which will host daily laser light shows in the evenings. The park officially opened on Saturday, December 1, with a series of events that are set to continue through the week. Daily fitness workshops, BMX and skate displays, and musical performances are all part of the schedule, which will run until Saturday, December 8. This week will also see a series of outdoor family film screenings, including Harry Potter, Despicable Me and Moana, along with festive classics Home Alone and Elf. Built on tiered levels, creating a natural progression from high to low, Reem Central Park is part of Aldar Properties' social-responsibility programme. The Dh250 million project also houses a mosque that can host 2,000 people, a retail centre, and food outlets including 800 Degrees Pizzeria, Taqado Mexican Kitchen and Urban Seafood. Reem Central Park is one of a number of major developments on the island. Work is also under way on Reem Mall, which is set to become one of the biggest in Abu Dhabi. The 2.9 million-square-foot mall is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020, and will feature dozens of shops and restaurants, as well as a cinema and Abu Dhabi's first indoor snow dome. Al Farwaniya Property Developments, the team behind Reem Mall, released the first list of tenants: Virgin Megastore, Home Centre, Centrepoint, Stradivarius, Adidas, Ecco, Steve Madden, Bershka, Eataly, and Paul are among the big-name brands set to open on the island. ___________ Location: People checking on Google Maps will find that the area where the park is located is currently marked as a lake. We can assure you that it isn't. ___________________________ Read more:
