The capital's Umm Al Emarat (formerly known as Mushrif) Park announced its "third-season line-up", which includes a number of new community-based events as well as some favourites putting in an appearance.
In the past three years, more than 180 events have been hosted at the park, ranging from concerts and art exhibitions to food festivals and charity runs.
This season will see several cultural and art events take place at the venue, with particular attention being paid to an activation being held in November.
Resulting from a collaboration between the University of Birmingham, the British Council in the UAE and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, the park will be hosting, for the first time in Abu Dhabi, an exhibition about the holy Quran featuring an interactive digital version of the manuscript held by the university, which is widely recognised as one of the oldest in existence.
White Cane Day, which celebrates the achievements of blind and short-sighted people, will be hosted at the park on October 14, and is set to include a special performance by Emirati singer Khalifa Naser. November will see the debut of Hakaya Misk, an interactive event for children and teenagers, which focuses on the various forms of storytelling.
With the cooler temperatures fast approaching, Yasalam's fitness programme, Get Driver Fit, will be perfect for those wishing to get more active. High Intensity Training and yoga classes, held every Monday and Friday, are free of charge. Also free will be the community run/walk taking place each Saturday morning; a children's relay race will be held in November, too.
“The park has always championed education through recreation and promoted a healthy and active lifestyle,” says Tanuja Kothari, project director at Al Ain Properties. "And this season’s events calendar reflects our vision to bring the best community events and make them accessible to a wide audience of park visitors.”
Regular visitors will be pleased to note that the popular Ripe Market will return to Umm Al Emarat on October 28 and is scheduled to take place every Saturday between 3pm and 9pm, while there will be free outdoor children's film screenings each Saturday night.
