The design of these gorgeous gilded brushes stole my heart.
I’ve seen similarly designed brushes doing the rounds for a while now, but I wasn’t too convinced about the quality. Having used Tarte’s brushes in the past, I gave into the temptation and found myself paying for it before I could remind myself of the roughly 50 brushes already sitting on my vanity.
The limited-edition Magic Wands Brush set features five brushes – a pink one for powder, green to blend eyeshadow, blue for shading eyeshadow, purple for liquid foundation and magenta for contour.
My first impression of them was that they were ridiculously soft and densely packed.
The powder, contour and eyeshadow blending brushes are definitely the best performers from the set.
The powder brush, with its tapered top made it easy to reach smaller surface areas, such as under the eyes and around the nose. The brush does tend to pick up less product requiring you to dip often, but I feel that makes it easier to keep the amount of product you apply under control.
The contour brush is one of the best I have used – it is a great tool for beginners learning the technique, and it leaves behind a soft shadow, as opposed to a stark brown line.
The eyeshadow blending brush is the perfect size for my small eyes – and blends shadows quickly and seamlessly.
The liquid-foundation brush is one that requires a little bit of work – application with this can be streaky at first, but going over with it a few times gave me a smooth finish.
The shading brush, unfortunately, picks up very little product, and is the hardest to work with.
The first time I washed these brushes, I did notice a little bit of shedding and colour fading. The set would have been perfect for travelling, but I can’t help but wish they had added another one for blush.
Overall, the set is decent value for money and looks so super cute and colourful.
