The long-awaited multistorey Dubai Mall extension has opened. Shoppers are able to walk through the space, however many of the boutiques have yet to open. The light-filled and bright area can be reached directly from the existing Fashion Avenue via a striking lit-up archway where the Hermes store used to be. Hermes will have its new boutique in the extension, as will Gucci, Mikimoto, Symphony and Dior boutiques as the new area will focus on high-end fashion. Some of the stores will spread over two levels allowing for big shop fronts to get creative with elaborate window displays. This is apt, as window shopping is all many of us will be able to do in the high-end area of the world’s largest mall. Before the extension there were approximately 1,200 shops, 200 food and beverage outlets and 3.77 million square feet of gross leasable area in the Downtown Dubai mall, which first opened its doors 10 years ago in 2008.
