The news that US Vice President Kamala Harris's stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, has recently signed up with IMG Models – the agency which represents Hailey Bieber, Chrissy Teigen, Paris Jackson and Bella and Gigi Hadid – has sparked global fashion interest in the "First Daughter of Bushwick's" style. Thanks to the jewel-encrusted Miu Miu coat she wore to the inauguration, the world's fashion spotlight has become fixed firmly on the fine arts student, 21, who regularly shows off her eclectic style on Instagram. Seamlessly navigating the sartorial waters between high fashion, vintage, high street and handmade, Emhoff incorporates her own pieces into her look, which she knits and crochets as part of her textiles and apparel degree at the Parsons School of Design. Her "First Daughter of Bushwick" nickname comes from the neighbourhood of Bushwick, where she currently lives. "Ella communicates this moment in time. There's a cheekiness and a joy she exudes," IMG Models president Ivan Bart told the The New York Times. And Emhoff herself has admitted to Vogue: "Amongst Dr Biden and Kamala and Meena [Harris] and me, I guess there is kind of some anticipation about what we're going to put out there in terms of fashion." And Emhoff has certainly been putting her personal style out there. Pay a visit to her Instagram page and her love of knitwear becomes very clear from photos of an array of knitted trousers, shorts, dresses and bikini tops. She's also a big fan of crocheting, showing off her skills by making hats and jackets. Speaking to Garage before the inauguration about whether she would like to wear one of her own designs to the swearing in ceremony, she said: "I want to, but like I was saying before, my style and my practice are so different, but I think I might have to just make an exception because for such a momentous occasion, I think it does require a pretty momentous outfit." And step up to the fashion plate for the momentous occasion she did, watching her stepmother (or "Momala" as she and her brother Cole call the VP) in a Miu Miu coat, under which she wore a burgundy dress by New York designer Batsheva. And prior to the big day, she had been photographed alongside her mother Kerstin, and Cole, wearing head to toe Thom Browne, in a striped pleated skirt, button-down shirt and tie. Scroll through the gallery above for 21 photos of Ella’s ever-evolving style.
