It's not just the proceedings that are a little different at this year's Venice International Film Festival, it seems. With mandatory face masks, temperature screenings and socially distant red carpets, the 77th iteration of the cinematic celebration certainly looks dissimilar from previous years. And the fashion has also had a little shake-up, judging by how the start of the festival has played out. While there were some sweeping gowns at the muted Opening Ceremony, day two made way for some rather contemporary red-carpet fare. Floor-trailing chiffon dresses were few and far between at premieres for The Human Voice, Amants and Quo Vadis, Aida, with shorter hemlines and striking separates dominating the best-dressed lists. Chief among them was Cate Blanchett, who recycled an Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the Baftas in 2016. In a sustainable move, the once-feathered-trimmed skirt had been replaced by tailored trousers, creating a sleeker silhouette against the ornately embroidered top. Stacy Martin dazzled in a bejewelled, knee-skimming Louis Vuitton, while Tilda Swinton teamed a Victorian-inspired midi dress by Chanel with a gilded face mask. Scroll through the gallery above for more photographs from day two of Venice Film Festival 2020 opening ceremony. The festival will run until Saturday, September 12.
