In honour of Canadian Thanksgiving, today this post is dedicated to a round-up of some of our favourite Canadian food bits. Firstly, sub editor Sarah Ferguson's famous – in our office at least – Nanaimo Bars. The recipe was posted on the blog on August 28, but be warned, those biscuity, layered chocolate treats are known as Canada's favourite sweet for a reason – they are seriously moreish.
An article in last Wednesday's Arts & Life (here) saw chefs and suppliers across the UAE praising the homarus americanus lobster from Canadian waters – and with good reason. If you find yourself confronted with a whole lobster anytime soon, the illustration above might prove useful in helping to extract as much of that delicious meat as possible.
For a lowdown on eating Canadian food in the UAE from the perspective of chefs and expats, this piece from last year is worth a look. Josh Kucharick's recipe for banncok bread stuffed with spiced pumpkin and served with plenty of maple syrup is very good and has a nice autumnal feel to it – it is October, after all.
Also note that we’ve spotted the oft-elusive Clamato juice (a mixture of clam broth and tomato juice) in both Spinneys and Choithram over the past couple of days. Clamato is, as any aficionado will tell you, essential for preparing the perfect Caesar.
