Foodies of Dubai will know the name Chef Reif Othman. He was the man in the kitchen at Zuma Dubai for years, and he opened Play Restaurant and Bar in 2015 and enjoyed a stint at Billionaire Mansion. So, if you want great Japanese food in the emirate, he is the man for you. And next month another new Othman offering will be coming our way, in the shape of Reif Japanese Kushiyaki. Billed as "unconventional Japanese street food", the eatery will be located at Dar Wasl Mall on Dubai's Al Wasl Road, and is set to open to the public on September 10. Chef Othman has been teasing fans with pictures on the Reif Japanese Kushiyaki Instagram account, promising that "something great is coming soon": Kushiyaki is a popular type of Japanese street food. Offering freshly-grilled, skewered meats, it is sometimes also called yakitori and is inspired by Japan's robata restaurants. The menu at Reif Japanese Kushiyaki certainly does not disappoint. There are kushi (skewer) choices from Dh30 to Dh62 per pair, with veggie, chicken and beef options – the cauliflower in black sesame sauce (Dh30), chicken breast in citrus dressing (Dh40) and Angus beef in goma wasabi (Dh62) all stand out. There is also gunkan sushi on the menu (from Dh40), a steamed bun burger (Dh65), crispy baby squid kushi katsu (Dh42), chicken or beef gyozas (Dh42) and clay pot rice dishes (from Dh105) to choose between, to name just a few dishes. The ever-popular Japanese noodle soup, ramen, has not been omitted from the menus. Broth lovers have two dishes to choose from: the 18 hour ramen (Dh59), a ginger chicken broth with bok coy and egg or the kagoshima ramen (Dh185), a Wagyu dashi with braised leeks and thinly sliced kagoshima Wagyu broth. Reif Japanese Kushiyaki opens on Tuesday, September 10, Dar Wasl Mall, Al Wasl Road, Dubai, 04 345 0761, reifkushiyaki.com
