The word “fika” translates from the Swedish as a “coffee and cake break”, but its philosophy runs far deeper. Indulging in fika means taking time out to enjoy a bite or beverage with people who matter. It’s this state of mind that Izu Ani – the patron chef of five Dubai restaurants – wants to promote with his latest venture, which opened at Jumeirah Beach Hotel this month. The food focus at Fika is on wholesome yet indulgent cuisine, in that fresh produce and nourishing ingredients are cooked fine-dining-style.
