The Australian textile retailer Bev MacInnes grew up in a family obsessed with good design. Her father was a watchmaker and jeweller, and her mother sourced products for a family shop from the 1950s until the 1980s. Bev worked in theatres all over Australia before studying for a degree in interior architecture and setting up her own interior design business in 2002.
Her passion for texture and textiles inspired her to open her own fabric shop, Bev's Remnant House, in Sydney a few years later. As well as the brick-and-mortar store, she has launched an online version to sell her wares further afield. The Sydney store offers a wide range of designer upholstery fabrics at affordable prices, including small samples, last-season and end-of-roll pieces, while her online realm stocks beautiful cushions from all over the world.
Bev's theatrical past and her love of bright colours are obvious from her daring collections of accessories. The Touch of India range is particularly fun - all bright, Bollywood inspired designs, with mopeds, henna and rice sacks as motifs. I particularly like the Wild Flowers rice sack cushion with cheery orange blooms and vintage-effect lettering. There are designs based on Indian matchboxes, too - completely irresistible.
Don't miss the oversized Chinese floor cushions by Kas. The large, square pouffes would look great scattered inside in the winter months or outside during the summer. Featuring embroidered folk-style patterns and multicoloured striped sides, they look fabulous stacked up. The colours clash but that's all part of the charm.
Bev stocks stunning cushions from the Australian studio BKH Design, too, which has elegant art deco designs. Available in black and white, or red and electric purple, they're real statement accessories. You'd only need one and a few coordinating plain cushions to give your sofa a whole new look.
