Cooking up a storm
Don't know your fattoush from your fatayel? Neither did we until we took an Arabic cooking class from the chef de cuisine Wafaei Al Zaham at The Yas Hotel. With a small group observing in the kitchens, the atmosphere was authentic but casual and questions were encouraged. Our menu featured four Arabic dishes: a traditional mezzeh, two salad starters and a delicious, crowd-pleasing main course, ma mouzat bil laban (lamb shank with yogurt). We watched the enthusiastic chef peel, chop, baste and boil as he shared his culinary knowledge.
Though we were slightly disappointed that we didn't do any cooking ourselves, this is an educational treat for anyone who appreciates food and would like a lesson or two in the kitchen. Plus, every attendee is sent home with the recipes from the class along with an apron and a toque. Better hurry, though,as there are only two sessions remaining. Have your cake and eat it
It's not often we get to go for a blow-out meal and still feel virtuous. But Sofitel hotel in Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai, has concocted a new fit menu where we can indulge in a three-course meal without worrying about our waistlines. The Dh190 extravaganza in the decadent purple setting of Rococo restaurant comes in at under 450 calories and includes a courgette salad, grilled chicken breast with baby spinach and a cheesecake made with low-fat cream cheese and topped with raspberry coulis. The obliging chef will even whip up a vegetarian alternative main if chicken is not your thing, skimping on oil and butter to save you worrying about piling on the pounds. The deal includes 20 minutes on a vibrating Vibrogym machine in the hotel gym to help you tone up. Fit menu runs until the end of July.

How to become a Boglehead
Bogleheads follow simple investing philosophies to build their wealth and live better lives. Just follow these steps.
• Spend less than you earn and save the rest. You can do this by earning more, or being frugal. Better still, do both.
• Invest early, invest often. It takes time to grow your wealth on the stock market. The sooner you begin, the better.
• Choose the right level of risk. Don't gamble by investing in get-rich-quick schemes or high-risk plays. Don't play it too safe, either, by leaving long-term savings in cash.
• Diversify. Do not keep all your eggs in one basket. Spread your money between different companies, sectors, markets and asset classes such as bonds and property.
• Keep charges low. The biggest drag on investment performance is all the charges you pay to advisers and active fund managers.
• Keep it simple. Complexity is your enemy. You can build a balanced, diversified portfolio with just a handful of ETFs.
• Forget timing the market. Nobody knows where share prices will go next, so don't try to second-guess them.
• Stick with it. Do not sell up in a market crash. Use the opportunity to invest more at the lower price.

Libya's Gold
UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.

Expo 2020 Dubai will be the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia
