'Medical workers are sacrificing so much': Rachel Bloom reveals what it's like to give birth amid a pandemic

Co-creator and lead star of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Rachel Bloom and husband Dan Gregor welcomed their first child on Wednesday, April 1. In a sweet post on Instagram, the proud mum announced the arrival of her daughter with the message: “She’s here. She’s home.” The star then went on to describe her experience giving birth during a pandemic, calling it “by far the most emotionally intense week of mine and Gregor’s lives”. “As the lovely doctors and nurses helped my daughter get some fluid out of her lungs, we watched the maternity ward around us change hourly to prepare for the upcoming Covid-19 storm,” she added. The US has been hard hit by the coronavirus outbreak, with more than 200,000 confirmed cases resulting in more than 5,000 deaths. Bloom subsequently gave a shoutout to the medical professionals who are working around the clock to treat Covid-19 patients. “The whole family is now home safe and I am just so grateful to all of our medical workers. From those in our NICUs (neo-native intensive care units) to those directly helping Covid patients like Adam, they are sacrificing so much to fight on the front lines of this war. Thank you, thank you, thank you.” The Adam Bloom was referring to is Adam Schlesinger, the singer-songwriter who died from coronavirus-related complications on Wednesday, April. The Fountains of Wayne musician won an Emmy for his songwriting work on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Schlesinger, 52, had been in hospital for around a week suffering from Covid-19 at the time of his death. Bloom later posted a tribute to her co-star, calling the musician "irreplaceable" and saying she was at a "loss for words". Bloom is best known for her lead role in the series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which has won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. She has also voiced characters in movies such as Extinct , Trolls World Tour and The Angry Birds Movie 2 . Meanwhile, her husband, Gregor, is best known for his role as an executive story editor and producer in sitcom How I Met Your Mother. He has also penned some episodes and was a producer of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend . Bloom announced her pregnancy after she won her first Emmy for the Best Original Music and Lyrics at the Creative Arts Emmys in September 2019. “I’m three months pregnant and I get to tell my child she was with me when this happened,” the actress said at the time.
