The Nissan GT-R50, a special edition to celebrate the model's 50th anniversary, made its public debut this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. The 720bhp car began life about a year ago as a concept and will now become a limited-edition road-going model of no more than 50 units that will cost an estimated €900,000 (Dh3.9 million) each. The collaboration between the Japanese carmaker and Italdesign celebrates 50 years of the GT-R name (originally as the Skyline GT-R), which will be marked next year, and the Italian design company's half-century in existence this year. The GT-R50 is based on the current GT-R Nismo, with Italdesign aiming to give the Japanese car, nicknamed "Godzilla", a "European-style sensibility". Modifications include a bonnet "power bulge", stretched LED headlights, a lowered roofline and “samurai blade” cooling outlets behind the front wheels, plus a large adjustable rear wing. An upgraded version of the 3.8-litre V6 engine means that the new model is more than 100bhp up on the existing GT-R, with better suspension and brakes to handle the improvements. ________________ Read more: Latest from The National's Motoring section ________________
