Fans of big wagons with a bit of oomph will be pleased to hear Audi has just announced the release of its new RS Q8 in the Middle East. It’s the most powerful SUV coupe the brand has ever produced – foot to the floor, the Q8 will reach 100kph from a standing start in 3.8 seconds, which puts it into the territory of considerably lighter and more tearaway vehicles. A sturdy engine is clearly needed to produce this performance, so the Q8 is powered by a 4-litre V8 beast, which is also turbocharged. It’s what they call a mild-hybrid system, which, without getting too technical, increases efficiency by allowing the car to coast on electric power when it is slowing down. So, lots of punch in the new arrival then, but buyers who fancy taking their new ride around a track won't get to see what it can do flat out as the top speed is limited to 250kph. It’s not all about the grunt though. The Q8 has been fitted out with more than 30 driver-assist systems, featuring a variety of 360-degree cameras, and the inside is as neat and tidy as you’d expect in any top-flight Audi. Those after aural thrills can also influence how much sound is filtered through the cabin via Audi’s drive select system. The Q8 was Audi’s bestselling model in the Middle East in 2019, so dealers are expecting some interest. The first models will arrive in the UAE at the end of March. Expect to pay a base price of Dh549,045.
