Shoppers in Abu Dhabi are in for a treat, with the expansion of Al Jimi Mall in Al Ain and two more huge projects on the way. Here's a look at the latest news on the mall scene in the capital. Al Jimi Mall in Al Ain recently unveiled its new extension, which saw the arrival of more than 100 brands, and food and beverage outlets, bringing the total store count to well over 200 shops. New stores include American Eagle, NYX, Bath and Bodyworks, Danube Home, United Furniture, Muji, H&M and the largest Home Centre in Al Ain. The mall includes Al Ain’s first outdoor ‘Retail Park’ concept, eateries including The Coffee Club, Triangle and Cafe Afi, and the first eight-screen Vox cinemas. This takes in two Theatre by Rhodes screens, a Max cinema with a mega-screen, a kids' cinema and four regular screens. Majid Al Futtaim will open its first mall in the capital with My City Centre Masdar. The shopping mall is on track to launch in the second quarter of this year, and will feature 70 stores across 18,500 square metres, including a 7,000-square-metre Carrefour Hypermarket. The mall is within the Masdar City transit network, adjacent to the city's proposed metro station. In keeping with the area's sustainability theme, electric car owners will have access to 18 charging points and there will be bicycle parking facilities near all the entrances of the mall. Reem Mall is set to open its doors in the second half of 2020. Located on Reem Island, the shopping destination will comprise 450 stores, including 85 food and beverage outlets, and the world's largest indoor snow park. It will also feature a hypermarket, four department stores, two food courts, a multiplex cinema and more. Reem Mall will also be divided into three areas: Mangrove Atrium, Urban Façade and Dynamic Façade — each inspired by the capital's mangrove forests, which includes salt flats and crystal formations.
