Fayrouz's 19th century family home in the Zaqak Al Blat area of Beirut was declared a building of cultural significance in 2012.

The municipality of Beirut initially announced in 2013 that it planned to take over the house to turn it into a museum in honour of the singer, real name Nouhad Haddad, who was born in 1934.

Fayrouz's home in Zaqak Al Blat, like other buildings in the neighbourhood, is famed for its architecture and red-tiled roof.

The story of the Fayrouz, the Soul of Lebanon, began within these now crumbling walls in 1934.
