Brave of India's Prime Minister to visit the soldiers

With reference to the report Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits tense area bordering China (July 3): The National did a good job of analysing Mr Modi's recent visit to Galwan Valley where 20 Indian soldiers were killed. His visit during the pandemic was all the more brave. He is a leader with a vision for his countrymen's safety and protection, that much no one can deny. Indians very proud to have a person like Mr Modi at the helm. Kudos to him for his leadership.

Reasons to put a hold on expenses and re-use teabags

Please refer to Ramola Talwar Badam's report Coronavirus: Dubai judge says tenants can end rent contract early if hit by financial hardship (July 2): Covid-19 is indeed putting financial pressure on all families. Across the world citizens are losing jobs and facing salary cuts. It is important to save as much as we can for the future. We may need to postpone spending on luxuries – travel, parties, etc. The pandemic will be tamed only through the dissemination of a vaccine, which may take about 18 months. So, for the rest of 2020 and even in 2021, we may have to use a teabag twice and squeeze out every last bit of toothpaste to save money for unforeseen emergencies.

A monument in Copenhagen is vandalised

With reference to the report Is Denmark's Little Mermaid monument racist? (July 3): being Danish, I can categorically say this was done by a few lads who had a severe case of nothing better to do.

To contain virus spread, stay home a little longer

With regard to your live blog Coronavirus live: UAE reports 716 new cases from more than 71,000 tests (July 4): I don't understand why people had to rush out to malls and other places as soon as the lockdown was lifted. A few more weeks at home wouldn't have harmed anyone. It would have given the authorities more time to contain the spread of this virus. We don't need another lockdown. But let's be sensible and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary.

Deepa Uppal, Dubai

We all have to be responsible. It is our behaviour that makes the difference. Wear masks correctly, practice social distancing and avoid gatherings.
