Idlib’s suffering can no longer be ignored by world leaders

I write to you in reference to Zouhir Al Shimale's article Idlib residents defy death to take a stand against Assad's assault (May 26).

The world must not abandon the Syrian people suffering at the hands of Bashar Al Assad, his Russian allies and their Iranian-backed militias.

Dialogue must prevail before it is too late for Iran and the US

I write to you in reference to Raghida Dergham's opinion piece Iran, the US and the strategy of provoking a deal  (May 18).

I think that Iran and the United States might truly be on course for collision but they both have much to lose if a military confrontation were to occur.

Both countries know the futility of an unwarranted war as it will drain their economies and involve proxies all over the region, with dire consequences for everyone involved. Conflict will not solve the issues at stake here.

Dialogue across the table with tactful diplomacy is the only way to avert a catastrophe from happening in the region.

High turnout for EU elections is a good sign for democracy

I write to you in reference to Gavin Esler's opinion piece Being on the European campaign trail brought out the worst of us – and the best (May 27).

As Mr Esler rightly pointed out, some people feel the European Union does not represent them and are disenfranchised as a result. That partly explains the process leading to Brexit.

The high turnout for these elections is therefore extremely positive to see.

The UK is still facing the consequences of the Brexit referendum today, as Prime Minister Theresa May herself realised when she had to resign over her failure to deliver a deal.

Will the UK’s new prime minister finally prioritise the interests of British people? Only time will tell.

Hidden speed cameras: will they make our roads safer?

I write to you in reference to Patrick Ryan's article 'Hidden' speed cameras spark Dubai controversy (May 27).

If you do not exceed the speed limit, then you have nothing to worry about.

The whole point of these hidden radar cameras is to deter drivers from respecting the speed limit only in areas where radars are located.

We should respect the law because it is the responsible, safe thing to do. Reckless driving is childish and dangerous.

If you go
Where to stay: Courtyard by Marriott Titusville Kennedy Space Centre has unparalleled views of the Indian River. Alligators can be spotted from hotel room balconies, as can several rocket launch sites. The hotel also boasts cool space-themed decor.

When to go: Florida is best experienced during the winter months, from November to May, before the humidity kicks in.

How to get there: Emirates currently flies from Dubai to Orlando five times a week.
