It was tax reform keeping Gary Cohn in the White House

In reference to your article Gary Cohn resigns as Trump economic adviser amid trade dispute (March 7), the only role this gentleman had was to get the sweeping tax reform done, from which his friends on Wall Street are profiting the most. With that job done, it's time to get back to making money for Mr Cohn. Now watch closely what position he ends up with outside politics.

Criminal justice system reflects Zayed’s legacy

I refer to your article Dedicated prosecution unit for domestic workers is a major milestone (March 9), your editorial was a meaningful and thought-provoking one. Sheikh Zayed's vision for all human beings, including domestic workers, to be treated with kindness and respect was laudable. You are right to point out that most workers are treated well and with care by their employers, but the recent incident in Kuwait, where a Filipina maid was found dead, was tragic. The decision by the government of the UAE to establish a specific prosecution unit to safeguard the interests of domestic workers in the country is remarkable, and worthy of praise.

Stop children from littering at beautiful Louvre Abu Dhabi

In reference to your article Guarding the Arabian Gulf: The lifeguards at Louvre Abu Dhabi (March 8), no doubt they also have to retrieve the numerous pieces of rubbish and refuse thrown over the walls at the museum by errant children and parents.

Age is evidently just a number in Hollywood these days

Please refer to your article Spotted: Tom Cruise skydiving over Abu Dhabi desert for Mission Impossible 6 (March 8). I absolutely love his fearless spirit. Tom Cruise gets better and better the older he gets.

You can have too many Emirati dresses... but I don’t

In reference to your article A glimpse at the colourful history of Emirati fashion (March 4), my cupboards are filled with Emirati dresses. I love the colours and the beautiful designs.

Two unique leaders hold global safety in their hands

Please refer to your article Donald Trump agrees to meet North Korea's Kim Jong-un by May (March 9). This is by some distance the best news of 2018. Both the leaders are mercurial and highly unique. Yet, there is real hope that a face-to-face meeting between them will result in a much-needed thaw. Actually North Korea has already expressed the desire to meet South Korean leaders and put the nuclear weapons issue behind them.

Some of these positive developments could have been foretold when Kim Jong-un’s sister visited South Korea for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang last month. We will have a safer world if North Korea is brought into the community of nations and gets rid of its nuclear weapons. So the coming talks between Mr Trump and Mr Kim are most welcome.

Business Insights
  • Canada and Mexico are significant energy suppliers to the US, providing the majority of oil and natural gas imports
  • The introduction of tariffs could hinder the US's clean energy initiatives by raising input costs for materials like nickel
  • US domestic suppliers might benefit from higher prices, but overall oil consumption is expected to decrease due to elevated costs
