With reference to your article, India's top court clears film that upset nationalists (January 19), the Supreme Court of India has shown wisdom in ordering the all-India release of the movie, Padmavat, despite protests from some fringe groups. The Censor Board has cleared the movie, but some states and groups have opposed its release on the basis of rumours. Artists must have space to express themselves. Why are some groups objecting without even seeing the film? The right to freedom of expression is fundamental in the Indian Constitution and the apex Court has done well to uphold it. Filmmakers spend a lot of money on making a film and it not being released on schedule can create losses for them.
