I write to you in reference to The National's coverage of the terrible massacre of 50 Muslim men, women and children in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand last Friday.
The news has shaken me, and has contributed to sowing fear in the hearts of Muslims living in the West. The world must recognise that Islamophobia is a real threat to peaceful citizens and combat anti-Muslim rhetoric that deliberately conflates Islamist terrorism to ordinary Muslims. We cannot let this dangerous ideology spread any further.
Donald Trump has minimised the importance of the Christchurch terror attack, insisting that white supremacy is not a societal problem and only affects fringe elements that may go off the rails every once in a while.
The “lone wolf” narrative is a very convenient one for right-wing politicians that have relied on sowing the seeds of hatred to get elected, but the facts are that white supremacy is just as much of a terror threat as Islamism. We must not give in to fear and do our best to eradicte intolerance and violent ideologies.

The Special Olympics World Games portray the values of the UAE
I write to you in reference to your article Special Olympics Opening Ceremony: Abu Dhabi World Games declared open - as it happened (March 15).
The National's coverage of the recent Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi inaugurated by Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed has shed light on an impressive ceremony. I enjoyed watched the Zayed Sports City filled with joy as the crowd cheered on the participants as people of all abilities gathered for the inauguration.
Such events are a source of pride for the UAE and consolidate values of tolerance and respect in the country.
The Games will surely have a durable legacy, and I was happy that your newspaper undelrined the fact that all the participants are winners in these games.

Eggboi is an anti-racist hero
I refer to your article New Zealand attack: GoFundMe page for 'EggBoi' who took on racist senator raises thousands (March 17).
Will Connolly, the teenager who egged the racist Australian Senator Fraser Anning, is truly a hero. Politicians who fuel hatred and blame the victims of terror attacks for their own demise now understand that we will not let them spread dangerous ideas.
I hope Will Connolly will use the money from this GoFundMe page to buy more eggs.

What is graphene?
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged like honeycomb.
It was discovered in 2004, when Russian-born Manchester scientists Andrei Geim and Kostya Novoselov were "playing about" with sticky tape and graphite - the material used as "lead" in pencils.
Placing the tape on the graphite and peeling it, they managed to rip off thin flakes of carbon. In the beginning they got flakes consisting of many layers of graphene. But as they repeated the process many times, the flakes got thinner.
By separating the graphite fragments repeatedly, they managed to create flakes that were just one atom thick. Their experiment had led to graphene being isolated for the very first time.
At the time, many believed it was impossible for such thin crystalline materials to be stable. But examined under a microscope, the material remained stable, and when tested was found to have incredible properties.
It is many times times stronger than steel, yet incredibly lightweight and flexible. It is electrically and thermally conductive but also transparent. The world's first 2D material, it is one million times thinner than the diameter of a single human hair.
But the 'sticky tape' method would not work on an industrial scale. Since then, scientists have been working on manufacturing graphene, to make use of its incredible properties.
In 2010, Geim and Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. Their discovery meant physicists could study a new class of two-dimensional materials with unique properties.

2018 ICC World Twenty20 Asian Western Sub Regional Qualifier

TOUCH RULES
Touch is derived from rugby league. Teams consist of up to 14 players with a maximum of six on the field at any time.
Teams can make as many substitutions as they want during the 40 minute matches.
Similar to rugby league, the attacking team has six attempts - or touches - before possession changes over.
A touch is any contact between the player with the ball and a defender, and must be with minimum force.
After a touch the player performs a “roll-ball” - similar to the play-the-ball in league - stepping over or rolling the ball between the feet.
At the roll-ball, the defenders have to retreat a minimum of five metres.
A touchdown is scored when an attacking player places the ball on or over the score-line.
