The World Food Programme has suspended staff travel in Gaza after a convoy was hit by gunshots.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the vehicle was clearly marked.

The announcement came after Israel launched a large-scale offensive in the occupied West Bank yesterday. The Palestinian health authorities and media reported that at least 12 people were killed.

The Paris Paralympics officially kicked off Wednesday, with a historic outdoor opening ceremony at the Champs-Elysees.

The UAE's opening ceremony flagbearers – cyclist Ahmed Al Badwawi and shot putter Maryam Al Zeyoudi – are among 13 athletes representing the Emirates.

The ceremony begins a week and a half of sporting competitions.

Saudi Arabia has announced the details of this year’s Riyadh Season, set to begin on October 12.

It’s the fifth Riyadh Season, which brings entertainment, sporting and cultural events to the Saudi capital.

The event is managed by the country General Entertainment Authority.
