Yahya Sinwar killed and the UAE drops aid into Gaza - Trending

Israel’s army has confirmed that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has been killed. Israeli forces found what they said was his body in the rubble of a building in southern Gaza.

Israel said Mr Sinwar was the "mastermind" of the Hamas October 7 attacks. His movements were restricted by Israeli operations in Gaza over the past year, and particularly in recent weeks, it added.

In the US, President Joe Biden on Thursday said Mr Sinwar’s death is a “good day” for Israel, the US and the world. Mr Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "congratulate him on the mission conducted in Gaza" that killed the Hamas leader, the White House said in a statement.

It added that the leaders also discussed "how to use this moment to bring the hostages home” from Gaza and ensure Hamas is never again able to control the enclave.

Meanwhile, the UAE has delivered more aid to the Gaza Strip. It is the 51st time humanitarian aid has been dropped into the enclave as part of the UAE’s Birds of Goodness operation. It means 3,463 tonnes of food and relief supplies have now been dropped into Gaza under the initiative.
