AL AIN // The Al Ain management have rewarded Abdulhameed al Mishtiki, the caretaker manager, with the job full time after he finished the season with a five-match unbeaten run which included an impressive 2-0 victory over Sepahan, of Iran, in the Asian Champions League.
Al Ain also announced they have signed Soufianne Alloudi until January. The Moroccan international, returning from a lengthy injury, played for Al Wasl on loan in the second half of last season. Alloudi has been drafted in to replace Marcio Emerson, who recently cut short a two-year contract with the nine-times league champions and the 2003 winners of the Asian Champions League, to play for Fluminense in his native Brazil.
Al Mishtiki, who will start his new role on the team's summer camp in Austria from July 14 to August 3, believes Alloudi complements the club's other two foreign imports, Jorge Valdivia, who is playing in the World Cup for Chile, and Jose Sand, the club's top scorer last season. "Alloudi is a fine player and was impressive when he played on loan, and that's the reason Al Ain signed him for three years," al Mishtiki said. "He has fully recovered from the injury and I don't have any doubt he will excel this season. He plays a similar game as Emerson and will combine well with Valdivia and Sand."
Alloudi was loaned to Al Ain in 2007 from Raja Casablanca. After his loan period ended he signed a three-year contract for US$450,000 (Dh1.65 million). The 26-year-old forward suffered a knee injury after scoring three goals against Namibia in the African Cup of Nations, and was ruled out for the whole of 2008. He spent almost the whole of 2009 with Raja Casablanca to recover from his injury and returned to the Pro League on a six-month loan with Wasl.
Al Mishtiki, the Emirati, appeared alone yesterday for a media briefing to announce the team's preparation for next season. "The club management, particularly the president, Sheikh Hazza, wants me to continue with the job and I am thankful to him for the trust and faith he has on me," al Mishtiki said. "I also have a lot of confidence in my players." He said he sees no need to sign addition players. "We have three excellent foreign players and combine them with the local talent, we've got a strong team."
Al Mishtiki was the club's Under 17 coach before taking charge of the first team as caretaker manager at the end of last season. By fighting off a late challenge from Baniyas, Al Ain finished third in the Pro League, earning them a play-off spot to qualify for the 2011 Champions League group stages. apassela@thenational.ae

Today we are taking the next step in this journey—well, it’s more like a leap, and a big one: in a few minutes, we’ll announce that we’ve agreed to acquire Careem. Importantly, we intend to operate Careem independently, under the leadership of co-founder and current CEO Mudassir Sheikha. I’ve gotten to know both co-founders, Mudassir and Magnus Olsson, and what they have built is truly extraordinary. They are first-class entrepreneurs who share our platform vision and, like us, have launched a wide range of products—from digital payments to food delivery—to serve consumers.
I expect many of you will ask how we arrived at this structure, meaning allowing Careem to maintain an independent brand and operate separately. After careful consideration, we decided that this framework has the advantage of letting us build new products and try new ideas across not one, but two, strong brands, with strong operators within each. Over time, by integrating parts of our networks, we can operate more efficiently, achieve even lower wait times, expand new products like high-capacity vehicles and payments, and quicken the already remarkable pace of innovation in the region.
This acquisition is subject to regulatory approval in various countries, which we don’t expect before Q1 2020. Until then, nothing changes. The flights
Etihad and Emirates fly direct to Kolkata from Dh1,504 and Dh1,450 return including taxes, respectively. The flight takes four hours 30 minutes outbound and 5 hours 30 minute returning.
The trains
Numerous trains link Kolkata and Murshidabad but the daily early morning Hazarduari Express (3’ 52”) is the fastest and most convenient; this service also stops in Plassey. The return train departs Murshidabad late afternoon. Though just about feasible as a day trip, staying overnight is recommended.
The hotels
Mursidabad’s hotels are less than modest but Berhampore, 11km south, offers more accommodation and facilities (and the Hazarduari Express also pauses here). Try Hotel The Fame, with an array of rooms from doubles at Rs1,596/Dh90 to a ‘grand presidential suite’ at Rs7,854/Dh443.

Healthy tips to remember
Here, Dr Mohamed El Abiary, paediatric consultant at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, shares some advice for parents whose children are fasting during the holy month of Ramadan:
Gradual fasting and golden points - For children under the age of 10, follow a step-by-step approach to fasting and don't push them beyond their limits. Start with a few hours fasting a day and increase it to a half fast and full fast when the child is ready. Every individual's ability varies as per the age and personal readiness. You could introduce a points system that awards the child and offers them encouragement when they make progress with the amount of hours they fast
Why fast? - Explain to your child why they are fasting. By shedding light on the importance of abstaining from food and drink, children may feel more encouraged to give it there all during the observance period. It is also a good opportunity to teach children about controlling urges, doing good for others and instilling healthy food habits
Sleep and suhoor - A child needs adequate sleep every night - at least eight hours. Make sure to set a routine early bedtime so he/she has sufficient time to wake up for suhoor, which is an essential meal at the beginning of the day
Good diet - Nutritious food is crucial to ensuring a healthy Ramadan for children. They must refrain from eating too much junk food as well as canned goods and snacks and drinks high in sugar. Foods that are rich in nutrients, vitamins and proteins, like fruits, fresh meats and vegetables, make for a good balanced diet
