Imran Tahir took four wickets as South Africa crushed Afghanistan by nine wickets in their 2019 Cricket World Cup match at Cardiff on Saturday. Leg-spinner Tahir took 4-29 in seven overs to break the back of Afghanistan's batting after South Africa won the toss and captain Faf du Plessis opted to field first. The 40-year-old, who is now the joint fifth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, accounted for the wickets of Noor Ali Zadran, Asghar Afghan, captain Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan as Afghanistan were bowled out for a paltry 125 in 34.1 overs. Seam-bowling all-rounders Chris Morris (3-13) and Andile Phehlukwayo (2-18) also chipped in with wickets. In response, Quinton de Kock scored a quickfire 68 before being caught by Mohammed Nabi off Naib's seam bowling. South Africa, second from bottom, have kept their World Cup hopes alive in the process, while Afghanistan remain rooted to the base of the 10-team table.
