Nepal women’s team created history on Monday by dismissing Maldives for just 16 in their opening game of the South Asian Games in Pokhara, Nepal. The T20 International finished in just 11 overs as Nepal bowler Anjali Chand registered world-record figures of six wickets for no runs. Her remarkable spell of 6-0 in 2.2 overs saw Maldives bowled out for just 16 in 10.1 overs, with only two batters opening their accounts. The previous best figures in women’s T20 international was 6-3 by Malaysia’s Mas Elysa against China in the 2019 Thailand Women’s T20 Smash. Maldives struggled to get going with openers Hamza Niyaz and Sajaa Fathimath both run out. But it was the introduction of Chand that broke their back. As many as eight batters were dismissed for nought. Nepal chased down the runs in the first five balls of the chase. It was the first instance in international cricket of any bowler taking six wickets without conceding a run. Incredibly, Maldives’ total is not the worst effort in a T20 international. Mali were bundled out for just six runs by Rwanada earlier this year. India seamer Deepak Chahar has the best bowling figures in men’s T20 Internationals – 6-7 against Bangladesh last month.
