India captain Virat Kohli received an official warning and one demerit point from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for ‘inappropriate physical contact’ with South African bowler Beuran Hendricks during the third T20. Kohli was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct. A demerit point was also added to the disciplinary record of Kohli. It was the third such offence for the India skipper since the introduction of the revised code in 2016. The breach occurred during the fifth over of India’s innings when Kohli made a shoulder contact with Hendricks while taking a run. Kohli accepted the punishment proposed by match referee Richie Richardson following which there was no need for a formal hearing. A Level 1 offence carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of match fee, and one or two demerit points. It added salt into the wounds of the India captain after his team <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/sport/cricket/virat-kohli-willing-to-step-out-of-comfort-zone-ahead-of-t20-world-cup-1.913925">were thrashed</a> by nine wickets in the third T20 in Bangalore. South Africa captain Quinton de Kock hit an unbeaten 79 off 52 balls to set up a series-leveling win. India missed a chance to win a first-ever T20 series against South Africa at home after winning the toss and scoring only 134-9. De Kock and Reeza Hendricks (28 off 26) put on 76 off 61 for the first wicket as South Africa eased to 140-1 in 16.5 overs.
