DUBAI // Ron Murphy, the Dubai Mighty Camels captain, is confident his team can end their jinx in the finals of the Emirates Hockey League and beat Abu Dhabi Storms for the title tonight.
The Camels have been the losing finalists for the past two years after winning the opening match of the best-of-three decider. They made a similar start to the finals this year, winning their opener against the defending champions, but lost the second in overtime in Abu Dhabi.
Going into tonight's deciding tie Murphy believes his team can change the script and make it third time lucky.
"Looking back at the last couple of years we were in this position, we won the first game in both finals and then lost the next two," Murphy said.
"It is a little different this year. We have our full team. In the past couple of years we were missing some key players at the end of the year.
"This year, we have all our key players. If you look at the last two games, we have played really well. We got a little unlucky in the last game and lost in overtime, but we played a really good game. So we are taking the positives from that and hopefully we can win."
With the final match being played at the Dubai Mall, Murphy also thinks home ice advantage will be in the Camels' favour.
"Home advantage is a key," he said. "We don't have to travel on the bus down to Abu Dhabi. So hopefully we can get off to a fast start and then roll.
We are both good teams. We have played each other more than five or six times already this year. We know what they do, they know what we do. So it's just going to come down to whoever does it better really."
