Michael Vick, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, was cleared Friday by an independent neurologist for workouts, and barring an unforeseen setback will start in Sunday's NFL game.
Vick has spent the past few days undergoing tests under the league's new analysis program to combat head injuries and completed all testing, allowing him to return when the Eagles play host to the New York Giants.
"We go through the process," said Andy Reid, the Eagles coach. "If he is OK on game day, he goes on game day."
Jeremy Maclin, the Eagles receiver, said that Vick looked fine to him on Thursday.
"We already know he's tough. He wanted to go back in the game despite the hit and everything," said Jason Kelce, the Eagles' centre.
"We already knew he was a competitor and this is just reiterating that."
In Dallas, Cowboys fans did not get the same positive news about their quarterback, Tony Romo, who was not on the field at the start of Friday's practice, giving the veteran back-up Jon Kitna another day of work with the starters.
Romo is dealing with a cracked rib and a punctured lung. He has not practiced since leading Dallas to a comeback victory over the 49ers last Sunday.
Jason Garrett, the Dallas coach, has not said whether Romo must practice before he is allowed to play in the home opener on Monday night versus Washington.
The receiver Dez Bryant returned to practice for the first time since injuring a thigh in the opener. The running back Felix Jones (shoulder) also returned after missing practice Thursday.

Uefa Nations League: How it works
The Uefa Nations League, introduced last year, has reached its final stage, to be played over five days in northern Portugal. The format of its closing tournament is compact, spread over two semi-finals, with the first, Portugal versus Switzerland in Porto on Wednesday evening, and the second, England against the Netherlands, in Guimaraes, on Thursday.
The winners of each semi will then meet at Porto’s Dragao stadium on Sunday, with the losing semi-finalists contesting a third-place play-off in Guimaraes earlier that day.
Qualifying for the final stage was via League A of the inaugural Nations League, in which the top 12 European countries according to Uefa's co-efficient seeding system were divided into four groups, the teams playing each other twice between September and November. Portugal, who finished above Italy and Poland, successfully bid to host the finals.
