Lewis Hamilton made a rare mistake as he crashed in second practice for Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix as Ferrari set the pace in Montreal. The world champion, who is 17 points in the standings as he bids for title No 6 this year, hit the barriers on the exit of Turn 9, giving his car a right-rear puncture as a consequence. Hamilton, who has won six times at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the past was only sixth quickest in his Mercedes-GP, 0.7 seconds off the pace of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Mercedes have won all six races this year, but it was Ferrari who had the edge on Friday as Leclerc's lap of 1 minute, 12.177 seconds gave him the fastest time. That was ahead of teammate Sebastian Vettel who was only 0.074 seconds adrift. Valtteri Bottas in the second Mercedes was third, with the McLaren of Carlos Sainz and Haas of Kevin Magnussen in fourth and fifth. Red Bull Racing had a poor day with Pierre Gasly and Max Verstappen only 12th and 13th. Qualifying is at 10pm UAE time on Saturday, with the race due to start at 10.10pm.
